The following is a statement from Stacia Levenfeld, CEO of the California Association of Food Banks, on USDA’s decision to discontinue its annual food security survey.
“For 30 years, the Household Food Security Survey has been a crucial tool for understanding hunger in America.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture decision to end this survey is disappointing. It limits our ability to track policy impacts on food insecurity and advocate for the 6 million people our member food banks serve each month. The USDA decision makes our work to end hunger even more difficult.
The California Association of Food Banks is committed to using research and data to understand the root causes of food insecurity as we advocate for a hunger-free future for all Californians.”
