On this day, we must rightfully shout out the CAFB <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/es\/what-we-do\/farm-family\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/what-we-do\/farm-family\/\">Programa de 'Farm to Family'<\/a> program, which works to build a diverse, sustainable, and charitable food system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>California produces nearly half of the nation\u2019s fruits and vegetables, yet hunger impacts 1 in 5 Californians. We believe that a critical step towards ending hunger in California begins with ensuring that California\u2019s fruits and vegetables are not wasted but rather equitably distributed across our state and beyond. The Farm to Family program, together with our farming partners and dedicated truckers, ensures that quality produce \u2013 that might otherwise go unused \u2013 goes to those who need it most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How Does Farm to Family Work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Farm-to-Family-Graphic.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41163\" width=\"841\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Farm-to-Family-Graphic.png 730w, https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Farm-to-Family-Graphic-300x77.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Farm-to-Family-Graphic-18x5.png 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 841px) 100vw, 841px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2005, our Farm to Family program has built collaborative relationships with farmers, packers, distributors, and freight carriers throughout California to distribute donated food to food banks. In 2022, Farm to Family had a record-breaking year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>240M pounds<\/strong> of fresh produce, proteins, and pantry essentials delivered to food banks (the previous year being 212 pounds!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Worked with <strong>74 agricultural partners<\/strong> spanning 23 counties in California<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5,725 truckloads<\/strong> of food delivered to food banks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Distributing farm-fresh fruits and vegetables requires significant cold storage capacity, costly freight, and timely distribution. Looking ahead, we are working to remove barriers for our smaller and more rural food banks that struggle to consistently distribute large quantities of fresh produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earth Day is a moment to appreciate the world we have, visualize the world we want, and reflect on the role we play.
