That means investing in the programs that work to end hunger every day, like CalFood. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">Budget Priorities: 2020<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/2020_CAD-Leg-Priorities.pdf\">Link to One Pager.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><u>COVID-19: $96M one-time for emergency food.<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">Our network estimates that food banks will need $116M in additional food to keep Californians healthy, well-fed, and out of hospitals during this time of potential system overwhelm. (Budget request is for $96M as $20M already secured for food boxes.)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">Feeding America has estimated that nationally over the next six months, food banks will need $1.4 billion in addition to federal assistance, roughly a $140 million need in CA.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><u>Disaster Resilience: $32M one-time for food and supplies.<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">COVID-19 has already affected wildfire preparation, and a fire during the pandemic stands to create a multi-layered crisis.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">$32M one-time will build the long-term disaster resilience of the emergency food network:<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">$8M for permanent, on-site investments to sustain emergency food operations during disasters.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">$24M for hunger needs that increase during disasters.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Other Budget Priorities:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><strong>SSI\/SSP COLA and grant restoration<\/strong> would help the 1.3 million SSI recipients living at 90% FPL by, providing $100 so no one on SSI is below 100% FPL &amp; resore the state COLA.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">&nbsp;<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/CA4SSI Leave Behind 4.29.2019.pdf\">Link to One Pager<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><strong>Restore cuts to CalWORKS &amp; restore the CalWORKS 60-month clock <\/strong>to ensure that no family <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">be<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"> in deep poverty at, or below, 50% of the FPL. ESTABLISH A FLOOR FOR CALWORKS GRANTS to protect families from deep poverty.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\"><strong>Expand CalRecycle funding <\/strong>to at least $40 million in Greenhouse Gas Reduction Funding for Food Waste and Organics Grant programs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The California state budget should reflect our shared commitment to ending hunger.
