Until recently, they were not able to afford food on a consistent basis. Their restricted budget often led them to leave their apartment and seek out family members who might be able to share a meal. Sometimes they traveled to their daughter\u2019s house and gleaned from her orange tree to eat or make juice so they wouldn\u2019t go hungry. Some days they went without.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After he was laid off from his job, Amadeo unsuccessfully searched for employment. He became depressed that he couldn\u2019t provide for his family. Additionally, his high blood pressure left him weak and fatigued when he didn\u2019t get enough nourishment.<\/p>\n<p>The couple applied for CalFresh, and Ana shared that the application process was very easy. She said, \u201cThe reality is, we needed to eat. Sometimes situations are tight and that\u2019s when programs like this are necessary.\u201d They can now purchase healthy items such as chicken, fruit, veggies, juice, and more.
