The four  partner distribution organizations doing the boots on the ground work are other CAFB member food banks: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.feedamador.org\/site\/pages\/home.cgi\" target=\"_blank\">Interfaith Council of Amador<\/a> (Amador County), <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/trcac.org\/the-food-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Resource Connection Food Bank<\/a> (Calaveras County), <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atcaa.org\/food-bank\" target=\"_blank\">ATCAA Food Bank<\/a> (Tuolumne County), and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mmcfb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Merced County Food Bank.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The transition to COVID-19 safe operations was no easy task, yet SHGV staff and volunteers were determined to meet the needs of their community as quickly as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"media-text-block align image-left\" style=''>\r\n    <div class='media-text-block-inner'>\r\n        <div class='image'>\r\n            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/FB_IMG_1590593292160.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/FB_IMG_1590593292160.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/FB_IMG_1590593292160-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/FB_IMG_1590593292160-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/FB_IMG_1590593292160-16x12.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/>        <\/div>\r\n        <div class='text' style=''>\r\n                        <div class='content'>\r\n                                    <div class='description'><p>&#8220;We swapped [to drive-through food distribution] within about\u00a0four days,&#8221; says Vaughan, &#8220;So\u00a0it was a really quick, like \u2018OK team, what are we\u00a0gonna\u00a0do?\u2019 It was really driven by the volunteers out there\u2014they were like \u2018We don&#8217;t want to stop providing this service, we know it&#8217;s necessary. So\u00a0what can we do to continue to make this happen?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n                                            <\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The answer to that question was manifold: existing programs were made pandemic safe, and new programs were put in place to fill the gaps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SHGV started a program about seven years ago called <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.localfoodbank.org\/mobile-fresh.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mobile Fresh<\/a>, where they go out into the community between three and five times per week and provide fresh food and other staple items to neighborhoods in need.&nbsp;Pre-pandemic, this entailed participants walking up to the mobile food distribution, but it has since switched to a drive-through.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"media-text-block align image-left\" style=''>\r\n    <div class='media-text-block-inner'>\r\n        <div class='image'>\r\n            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"498\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/mobile-2-e1614634074100.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/mobile-2-e1614634074100.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/mobile-2-e1614634074100-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cafoodbanks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/mobile-2-e1614634074100-16x10.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/>        <\/div>\r\n        <div class='text' style=''>\r\n                        <div class='content'>\r\n                                    <div class='description'><p>&#8220;And because of that,&#8221; states Vaughan, \u201cwe&#8217;re actually able to serve more people in less time, because nobody is having to get out of their cars, volunteers are in their own safe stations safely masked and gloved, and they just load the food directly into the cars.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n                                            <\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>SHGV also runs a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.localfoodbank.org\/senior-brown-bags.html\" target=\"_blank\">Senior Brown Bag<\/a> program that provides 20 pounds of mixed groceries to seniors twice per month at 24 sites in San Joaquin County. Sites have converted to drive-through or home delivery based on volunteer availability. While Senior Brown Bag meets the immediate food needs of older adults, it also helps fulfill emotional needs. Many look forward to seeing smiling faces and people that truly care about their wellbeing. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;These&nbsp;distributions are not only a necessity to our seniors for food, but for their mental health and ensuring they have someone checking in on them. We couldn&#8217;t be&nbsp;more proud&nbsp;of how quickly and how efficiently it\u2019s been operating.&#8221;<\/p><cite>Jessica Vaughan, Executive Assistant\/Director of Development<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Another COVID-19-necessitated program SHGV has implemented is their <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.localfoodbank.org\/emergency-food-box.html\" target=\"_blank\">Emergency Food Box <\/a>program. &#8220;We began our emergency food box program within two weeks of the initial shutdown, with boxes built by hand from our volunteers,&#8221; explains Vaughan. &#8220;The program allows participants to sign up through our website or by calling our office. They can receive a box of emergency food and a list of other resources twice a month.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>COVID-19 has affected people from all backgrounds, and SHGV has seen the impact firsthand: \u201cBefore, we were mostly serving children and seniors, but now we&#8217;re serving more&nbsp;working class&nbsp;people that may have lost their jobs, or their hours have been cut, the circumstances change for whatever reason,\u201d reports Krick.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"quote-block image-left align\">\r\n    <div class=\"quote-block-inner\">\r\n        <div class=\"text\">\r\n            <div class=\"quote\">\r\n                <div class=\"content\">\r\n                    Maybe they can&#8217;t work because there is a childcare issue or they&#8217;re off their job for however long they have to be. Now we get phone calls and hear people that didn&#8217;t know if they could actually access a food bank for help. We think their new name is a perfect reflection of their impact: working to create a greater life in the greater valley every day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>SHGV is hosting a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flipcause.com\/secure\/cause_pdetails\/MTA4MDg0\" target=\"_blank\">St. Patricks Day Drive-Thru Dinner fundraiser<\/a>.
