This week’s #MemberMonday is Kings Community Action Organization. KCAO was established in 1965, and has service sites located in Armona, Avenal, Corcoran, Hanford, Home Garden, Kettleman City, Lemoore, and Stratford, California. Their mission: Working as a team, KCAO will seek and provide programs that develop self-sufficiency in individuals, families, and communities within Kings County.
KCAO is very excited about the new partnerships they are building with non-traditional food sites. They opened a food pantry at one of their community colleges, West Hills Lemoore, and it has been successful for the students, college, CalFresh Nutrition Program, and the food bank. They are now working on their first pantry at a community medical facility — KCAO firmly believes that food is medicine. They will be having a ribbon cutting ceremony soon!
CAFB has helped legislate funding both on the state and federal levels. The funding has been crucial in daily operations and food for our families. All food banks have benefited tremendously from these funds.
Savino Perico, KCAO Community Development Manager
Maria is a volunteer at one of KCAO’s food distribution sites. She is an older adult who loves to come and volunteer. “I have been doing this for five years now,” she says. “I love coming to serve my community and make people smile.”
CAFB has also helped with Farm to Family produce. The Team at CAFB is always making sure we secure the (ironically) much-needed produce to the Central Valley.
