Andrew joined CAFB in 2014, and oversees our state and federal policy agenda to address hunger and poverty. His work includes CalFresh Expansion to SSI that has led to more than 500,000 Californians receiving CalFresh, record investments in the emergency food network, and influencing key provisions in the Farm Bill and COVID relief legislation to protect and strengthen the food safety net. He directs a broad food security portfolio from public benefits to food waste, partners with a wide array of stakeholders, and builds the capacity of food banks, agencies, and clients with lived experience to lead anti-hunger advocacy.
Prior to joining CAFB, Andrew directed the research program at the Berkeley Media Studies Group, a leading media advocacy organization assisting public health advocates achieve policy victories. Andrew holds a Candidate in Philosophy and a Masters degree in Sociology from UC San Diego, and a BA cum laude in American Studies from Northwestern University.
